The 11th International Festival of animation short films
Cortoons is an independent festival of short animated films based in Rome and one of the most important events for animation professionals and lovers throughout Italy.
With more than 8000 spectators per year and a wide media exhibition, for 9 years Cortoons has been a great showcase for video-makers with a cutting edge creativity, in a totally independent and self-funded framework.

Cortoons 2014 will take place in a new location: the Goethe Institut Auditorium, Rome, via Savoia 15, from 20th to 23rd march, from 6 to 12 pm. Ticket 3 €.

We point out two special screenings.
On Friday 21st march, from 7.40 pm, a special screening of "The Art of Happiness” is scheduled, entirely produced and realized in Naples by Alessandro Rak.
The screening will be preceded by an introduction on the animation of Francesco Alo and a meeting with the director and producer.
Under a leaden sky, among the apocalyptic foreboding of a degradated Naples, Sergio, a taxi driver, receives news that upsets him. Nothing will no longer be as before. The taxi becomes a microcosm where he locks himself in order to escape his world, but which the world enters and exits through its passengers.
Alessandro Rak (1977) is an Italian cartoonist. Along with Andrea Scoppetta he created the animation studio Rak & Scop in 2001. In a few years Rak & Scop has produced not only animation but also comics, demos and character designing. He lives and works at the Spanish Quarter of Naples.

On Saturday march 22nd at 7.50 pm, the projection of a painstaking digital manipulation work of art, called "Beauty", will take place. made by Rino Stefano Tagliafierro.
“Beauty” is an impressive work that “brings to life” the greatest masterpiece of Renaissance and Neoclassical art. In a few weeks “Beauty” became a viral work leaving literally speachless the web community all over the world and bringing its author to a well-deserved reputation.
Rino Stefano Tagliaferro was born in 1980. An Italian experimental animator and director, he graduated at the ISIA of Urbino and IED - European Institute of Design in Milan. He has made many music videos for the major Italian and international artists: FourTet, Stumbleine, Digitalism, Mobbing, M+A, ORAX, Fabri Fibra, Big Fish, Morgan, Eva, Mario Venuti e Vittorio Cosma.
