9th to 14th June 2014 38th Annecy Animation Film Festival
A new successful animated week in Annecy
Over 7,100 participants from 73 countries this year in Annecy. The town was ligthened up by the festivalgoers, attending exhibitions, cine-concerts, signing session. The programme of the animation festival was extended with many different events for everyone.
Moreover, a continuous increase of festival attendants marked the great success of this 38th edition of the International Animation Film Festival.

The programme stood out for the high quality of the works in competition, a mix of black humour, emotion and social issues.
Once again Brazilian animation was in the spotlight: after the feature Cristal award won last year with Uma história de amor e fúria (Rio 2096: A Story of Love and Fury) The Cristal prize for a Feature Film actually went to O menino e o mundo (The Boy and the World), by the brazilian director and writer Alê Abreu Abreu is also known for Espantalho (1998) and Garoto Cósmico (2007)
Among the other official prizes:

  • the Cristal prize for a Short Film went to Man on the Chair, by Dahee Jeon - France, South Korea, SACREBLEU PRODUCTIONS
  • the Cristal for a TV Production went to En sortant de l’école "Tant de forêts" by Burcu Sankur and Goeffrey Godet, France, TANT MIEUX PROD
  • the Cristal for a Commissioned Film went to Nepia "Tissue Animals" by Fuyu Arai, Japan, ROBOT COMMUNICATIONS, INC.
  • the Cristal for a Graduation Film went to The Bigger Picture by Daisy Jacobs, Great Britain, NFTS
  • Exceptional screenings contributed to festival prestige.
    Walt Disney Animation Studios presented a teaser of the upcoming feature Big Hero 6, scheduled for release in France in February 2015.
    A sneek peak of Dragons 2 was also shown and director Dean DeBlois was greeted by a standing ovation.

    The Pâquier was once again transformed into a free open-air cinema, with screenings of popular films including the karaoke version of Frozen, Rio 2, Dragons and Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart which gathered over 6,000 spectators every evening.
