15th March 2017 Annecy International Film Festival and Market
Annecy 2017: China is the year’s guest country. The new poster and the official selection
The French illustrators, animators and filmmaker Kevin Manach and Ugo Bienvenu are the designers of the Annecy Film Festival and Market 2017 official poster.
Their creative collaborations are easily recognizable thanks to their contemporary experimental style inspired by comic books from the 40s and 50s.
For this poster they took inspiration from the year’s main themes, China as guest country and erotica, and they thought of Jade, Ugo Bienvenu’s wife who has Chinese roots, while sitting with an Italian ice-cream cone in her hands, and Lake Annecy behind her.

China is actually the guest country for Annecy 2017. "China is a great country, almost a continent and its animation is rich and varied", festival Artistic Director, Marcel Jean said.

The tribute to Chinese animation will be developed around a big exhibition presented at the Château d’Annecy, musée lacs et montagnes, where material from classic films from the Shanghai studio will pave the way for a number of installations by artists/filmmakers working at the frontiers of contemporary art and animation such as Sun Xun, Haiyang Wang, Wu Chao and Weilun Xia.

In addition to this exhibition, there will be a retrospective of a dozen programmes, including Princess Iron Fan (1941), the feature by brothers Laiming and Guchan Wan, three programmes of historical short films, a retrospective of Sun Xun, a programme of short films from contemporary artists, a retrospective of the work of Xu An and Xi Chen and the best shorts from Chinese schools.

A Chinese delegation set to attend the Mifa, led by the SARFT, with a pavilion space of over 150 m.

This year, the International Animation Film Festival of Annecy has received over 2,600 films, coming from all over the world. They are short and feature films, TV and commissioned films and graduation films.
More than 200 films have been shortlisted to take part in the official selection, which will present in particular 87 short films and 48 graduation films.
Feature films in competition will be announced at the end of April 2017.
The official selection of the Festival is realized by the artistic delegate Marcel Jean and the Films & Programmation team, composed by Laurent MillionYves Nougarède et Sébastien Sperer.
